Beginners guide to Baccarat

Where it all started

The game of Baccarat was first played in Italy in the 1400’s. Baccarat is an Italian name meaning “zero”. From Italy, Baccarat was “exported” to France, and became popular under the reign of King Charles VIII. The game was initially played by the royals, and it was not until 400 years later that the game gained acceptance in many Casinos across Europe. In this article we will introduce a guide to Baccarat so you can get familiarized with the basic baccarat rules.

Facts on Baccarat

Baccarat is a group game where all the players have to play the same hand. The rules of the game are not complicated and a player need not memorize the rules of the game. As a matter of fact, in some game variety, you are not even supposed to decide on your next move, but rely only on intuition!

Learning and winning the game does not need much effort. Baccarat is an easy game to win, as each player has a 50-50% chance of winning. There are no special skills required as such, and you need not have the best gambling skills to emerge victorious. One advantage with the game is that it has a low casino house advantage, and in most casinos the advantage is only1.17%.

There are three varieties of Baccarat available

• Punto banco – purely a game of chance, where no skill or strategy is not required.

• Baccarat chemin de fer and Baccarat banque – both players are given the option of making changes, hence skills play a role in determining the winner.

If you live far away from a casino, don’t worry there are many online casinos where to play baccarat.

How Baccarat is played

The game is played by comparing two cards between two hands. The two hands in this case are the banker and the player. The game of Baccarat has three possible outcomes:

• The player

• Banker

• Tie

Of the three possible bets, the tie bet is the worst to have. This is because of the high house advantage of 14%. It is advisable to avoid this type of bet as much as possible.

The primary objective of the game should be to draw a two or a three card hand totaling closer to nine compared to the banker. That said, Baccarat is all about bets and choosing the best bet that suits your budget is the best way to go.

The game of Baccarat is played in a specialized layout table. The table is big so as to accommodate many players; mostly the number of players is twelve to fourteen. Unlike other forms of poker, sitting position has no significance to the outcome of the game. This is because each seat in a baccarat table corresponds to a number on a layout i.e. one to fifteen.

The game is managed by three dealers. Two dealers help the players on each side of the Baccarat table as the other dealer manages the game. The dealer who manages the game is known as the “caller” and he is tasked with running the rounds as the cards are dealt from the shoe.

Who wins in Baccarat?

As per the rules of baccarat, each player is given the chance of handling the shoe. When a player has the shoe, the player must bet the bank, however, a player may do decline to do this and the shoe passes to the other players.

When the game starts, two hands are dealt, and a player bets on which one will win or which will tie. In each hand, there is a maximum of three and a minimum of two cards.
