Wayne Rooney father cleared of gambling charge

Wayne Rooney Snr. The father of Manchester United and England striker has been cleared of a football betting scam levied against him. Wayne Rooney’s father was among eight people arrested last October following investigation of suspicious betting activity. The clearance of chargers against Wayne Rooney father was confirmed by his solicitor who said that Rooney Snr. was very happy that he had been vindicated of the charges.

Precursor of the arrest

The arrest of the eight men is because of the “unusual” sequence of events and betting patterns between the teams of Hearts and Mother well played on 14th December 2010. The British bookmakers reported an unusual number of bets from the Liverpool area speculating that there will be a send-off in the match something that materialized when mother well player Jennings was sent off from the match for using abusive language against the referee, and committing a bookable foul in their 2-1 defeat against hearts.

Following the complaint by the British Bookmakers, the gambling commission launched a probe to investigate the betting pattern of the game in collaboration with the Merseyside police.

Jennings, the mother well players has also been cleared of the allegations.
